Brady Inn, Madison, Georgia Review

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of staying at the Brady Inn in Madison, Georgia. It is situated a short walk away from the downtown area of a place that I would unabashedly compare to the fictional town of “Stepford.” My husband and I took a long walk about town and couldn’t help but notice how polite everyone was and how everyone says “good morning” to each other as they walk by. This quaint town is typical 1950’s idealism at it’s best. The Courthouse and Chamber of Commerce are charming little buildings, and everything is so quintessentially American.

Every storefront decorates their windows- even the financial services and real estate firms! We stopped at a local coffee shop called “Perk Avenue” and got some delicious lattes to take on our walk. They were decorated and ready for the Halloween season- see photo below 🙂

We enjoyed our walk, and even took a few other photos about town.

Madison Courthouse. Yes, that's a teddybear on the steps.

Overall, the town is just gorgeous and everyone is so friendly. We did a little shopping and stopped at Pure Bliss Spa to pick up some mascara as I had forgotten my makeup. We received friendly service everywhere we went. I wish we had spent longer walking around, but when we weren’t busy visiting with family, we stayed at the Brady Inn. The Brady Inn was a wonderful place to stay. The owners were so welcoming, explained everything when we arrived at which point we were also served with the check. I fully support that practice, it reduces misunderstandings and increases transparency in billing. In case you’re curious, it was about $160 per night, as quoted on their website.

As I was saying, Peter met us at the door and explained everything. He gave us the keys to the front and back doors, which are locked promptly at 6pm, and showed us where the thermostat was in case we got hot or cold. There’s a dry erase board that tells you what time breakfast is and a beverage area which includes complimentary wine, beer, sodas, bottled water, coffee, tea, and various snacks as well. It was well organized and intuitive- a place for everything, and everything in its place.

The Brady Inn itself is historic and charming. The house is decorated with antique furnishings and photos and art from the period. I took a few photos of the Inn itself and more are available online and on the website. Here’s a photo I took of the front entrance:

Brady Inn Entrance

We stayed in the Patrick Brady Guestroom. The Brady room itself is comfortable and features plenty of natural light if you like. If not, you can close the plantation shutters and close the curtains for darkness. The bed is a very comfortable antique and I felt like a queen sleeping on it. The bathroom is small, but functional. The only complaint I would put forth is the loose faucet, but it didn’t impair the function of the bath, nor did it inconvenience me- I just try to provide honest accounts of things. It’s also worth noting that shampoo, conditioner, soap and a hairdryer were all provided. I can’t provide reviews because I brought my own soaps, but the hairdryer was in good working order.

Here are some pictures of the room:

The bed in our room is flanked on both sides by windows.

The breakfast was wonderful. I woke up about a half hour late both days and I was still served breakfast. I think the general rule is that if there are still other people eating, it’s not so big a deal to make breakfast for the new people. The first day we had a small peach & raspberry jam concoction with some fresh cream, served warm. Next we had some grits and a ham, cheese & egg casserole. The grits were pretty good, but they’re not really my thing. The casserole was delicious and I ate the whole thing. The next day we had a cinnamon spiced fruit cup, also served hot. It was good, I love fruit, so I enjoyed it. Then we were served stuffed french toast. It was served with real maple syrup and had cream cheese inside it. It was accompanied by a side of eggs and bacon. Yummy! Overall, the breakfast service was very professional as well. We were served coffee, tea, orange juice and water- I took in as much as I could. Everything was wonderful.

If you’re only staying two days, they don’t bother to change the sheets unless you ask, but they do offer new towels- which I did need. The checkout process, considering that we paid upon arrival was simple and we simply handed the keys back to the owner. I hope this review was helpful and that you too enjoy the small town atmosphere that is Madison, Georgia and that you too get a chance to enjoy the Brady Inn.

The Return of Bhakti Yoga Shorts

I am so excited to see the return of the Bhakti Yoga Shorts this year. I really would love to know why Lululemon released these last year in the fall/winter season and again this year in the same, without a summer release, but I am still very excited to see their return to the shelves. I was worried that perhaps they were not popular enough to warrant another release when they were not released this summer, but alas, Lululemon has decided to keep them a fall/winter item (for some reason). I mentioned these in my fit review about the Bhakti line here, and I said that I would be wearing them on vacation and on hot summer days. Indeed I wore them for almost the entirety of my Caribbean cruise, as well as on hot summer nights. It was a mild summer compared to last year, but I found myself wearing them in July and August nonetheless.

Pictured above are two pairs from last year. They’re back this year in Heathered Black & Inky Floral Soot Black/ Heathered Black. I hope we get some colours! We only got 4 last year, Petal Pop (waistband, black otherwise), Baroque Blue, Fresh Teal (also waistband only) and Black. I hope we get some more colours- I got the black ones and the blue ones, and I don’t need more black. I would die for some purple ones! What do you think of the Bhakti Yoga Shorts? Have you tried them? What do you think of the new run? Let me know in the comments below!

The Body Shop’s NEW Drops Of Youth Eye Concentrate

Hello everyone! It’s time for another instalment of NEW Body Shop Product Reviews! The Body Shop recently started sending me things to review and this month they sent me “Drops of Youth Eye Concentrate.” I’ve been using this for two weeks, one to two times daily, because I wanted to give a full and honest review. Let’s see what the product information says about it:

  • Smoothes the appearance of lines around the eyes
  • Appearance of eye bags seems reduced
  • Eyes appear less tired
  • Innovative cooling roller ball pump applicator
  • Partner with bestselling Drops of Youth™ Concentrate for a youth-enhancing boost

Let’s tackle these one by one like I did last time! *Un*fortunately, I don’t have lines around my eyes *yet* (knock on wood!), so I can’t speak to this claim. I would definitely agree that eye bags in the morning are reduced, but I think it’s more the applicator (it’s metal) than the product itself. The eyes do appear less tired once those pesky bags are gone!

That said, I didn’t love the metal applicator. It was cold and I feel like I’m ultra sensitive to the cold and even though it does work, I’m not inclined to put it under my eyes in the morning when I’m still groggy. Some people said that they loved that it “woke them up,” but I am not that type of girl. I used it “as directed,” up until this point so that I could write this review, but in the future, I intend to squirt some of the product on my finger and apply it that way.

With that out of the way: I really like the product that is inside the container. It smells, sweet and light. If you read my blog, you may recall that I do not like heavily scented things on my face, and this scent is slight and therefore pleasant in my opinion. I think that this would actually be a great ‘overall’ serum and I might end up using it all over my face, but I was not really impressed with the packaging. I’m giving it 3 stars.

The Body Shop Drops of Youth Eye Concentrate The Body Shop Drops Of Youth Eye Serum Applicator The Body Shop Eye Concentrate Applicator

I wanted to take a couple of pictures of the applicator to show the metal rollerball construction. It’s well-made, not cheap-feeling at all.

If you’re interested you can buy it now, here: The Body Shop Drops of Youth Eye Concentrate

I think that maybe if I were older, I might like this product more, but I don’t have any of the issues it claims to treat, so it’s difficult for me to review it based on that criteria. Overall- I love the Body Shop, but this product was not for me.

Things I’m Loving Right Now

I’m SO excited about some of Britt’s picks coming up. I can’t wait to try the Race Your Pace 1/2 Zip in-store & I think I need that Bumble Berry Dance Studio Jacket. Britt's Picks

I really loved the Race With Grace pullovers- Sincerely one of Lulu’s best Luxtreme pullover’s in the last little while. I am hoping that this Rulu pullover is just as good, so it can serve as a great winter-run top. I am in the market for a white long sleeve top to wear under vests and sleeveless dresses this winter, so I did go in to try on the Run For Gold 1/2 Zip. I thought the reflective details were really cute, and the mesh was well-placed, but I didn’t find the fit to be particularly flattering, so I had to leave it behind. I think it’s partially my preference for the regular Luxtreme, over the “Light Luxtreme” that the Run For Gold is made from.

As for the Bumble Berry Dance Studio Jacket- I just really love the DSJs. I only have a couple, but they’re absolutely perfect for fall.

I also tried on the new Bhakti Yoga jackets. They were beautiful last year, but they’re nicer this year, in my opinion. The Luon in the Heathered Deep Coal one is especially soft. I loved it. I almost took it home, but they didn’t have my size 🙁

I’m so happy Lululemon came out with a new red. Bumble Berry is so pretty & Lulu hasn’t come out with a good new red in forever! Currant was nice & I really liked Love Red, but there haven’t been as many reds coming out as I would like. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

I hope that Lulu keeps coming out with more reds! I will post back once I try on the 1/2 Zip & the DSJ.

Thanks for reading!

This Blog & The Future…

Hello everyone! I was just thinking about y’all & what I’m going to be writing about in the future. I still LOVE Lululemon and will still be writing about it, but I think I’ll stick to what I know best (market, buying & selling and key pieces/ collections), and let the others cover the uploads. I’m just not as passionate about covering the uploads, as I thought I would be. I think I’ll still do some posts under my “What I’m Loving Right Now” category, but I won’t be covering any uploads, as they are traditionally covered. I might choose to cover a We Made Too Much Upload, if its especially good though, just because no one else does and, like I have said before, people do inquire as to whether something went to markdown or not, and also as to how much it cost on markdown. I will mention here that in addition to Lulu Addict and Lulumum, I have been enjoying the coverage of uploads as portrayed by Agent Athletica. As such, I have found that my coverage, though it does result in more views, has been largely redundant. Furthermore, I have difficulty expressing my opinions on clothes, as I feel that they are a matter of taste and I don’t wish to offend anyone. So, in the past, I have often neglected to express my opinion on things that I disliked in the interest of political correctness. This is in direct opposition to my personal values and one of the many reasons why I write at all. I have strong opinions and enjoy having the platform to voice them. Whether it is regarding my strong distaste for fakes, or a rather strong position in favor of Lululemon’s decisions, I have expressed my opinions rather freely on this blog, yet haven’t felt the freedom to do so when covering Uploads. I guess it’s because I regard fashion as art and what I find pleasing or treacherous is a matter of opinion based solely on my own, personal bias. Art is sacred in a way, and I tend to avoid being critical unless I have a vested personal interest, or enough experience and understanding to know what is good and what is bad. For example, I consider myself to have a fairly adept recognition of good or poor writing, which is why I have no problem writing a book review, no matter how scathing. However, I have not studied fashion, nor do I follow trends as closely as perhaps I should. Therefore I question my own opinions, resulting in an absence of many of them in my “Upload” posts. In any case, if you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading 🙂 I hope to continue to write about Lululemon, Beauty, Fitness and whatever else comes across my path.

The Body Shop InstaBlur Primer Review

Hello everyone! I’ve been on vacation, but I’m back now and I have another review for you. The Body Shop has kindly chosen to gift me some of their products, and as I mentioned last time- I am excited to be able to review some products from one of my favorite companies. This month they gave me their new “Instablur” primer to try. I’ve used it a few times. Immediately, I noticed that it reminded me of Smashbox’s Photo Finish primer. Upon inspection, they both have similar application. The Body Shop one is slightly more robust (thicker) and has a light scent. While the Smashbox one is thinner, with no scent.

I had a lot of fun comparing this to other primers I own. I went through my makeup drawers and grabbed every primer I could find. This primer bears little similarity to Boscia’s Skin Perfecting primer, Sephora’s Anti-Shine Foundation Primer, or Laura Mercier’s Foundation Primer. These all apply “wetter,” and as more of a moisturizer than the Body Shop’s Instablur and the primers I will be comparing to it.

I also found that Ulta’s Professional Matte Prime applied similarly. It has the most shine to it, but the ingredients are very similar to those in the Smashbox Primer. (The first three ingredients are exactly the same, and there are other ingredients listed that are also the same further into the lists) I didn’t find that it had much of a scent either. For reference, the ingredients and other information about the Ulta primer and the Smashbox primer can be found by clicking the links in this sentence.

The Body Shop’s Instablur is an effective primer. It applies a little thicker than other primers, but reduces to a thin, matte finish. You don’t need a lot, just put a little on your finger and keep rubbing it in until it goes smooth. It’s thick at first, but it will blend into your skin for that matte finish we all love. I used it a few times under my makeup, and I can definitively say that it did not break me out. I’ve had issues with liquid makeup items causing breakouts in the past and that didn’t happen with Instablur. (Thank Goodness!) On The Body Shop’s website it says that this primer is supposed to do 5 things:

  • Shine Controlling 12h
  • Reduces appearance of pores
  • Blemish Hiding
  • Complexion Unifying
  • Make-up Extending

Let’s tackle the list, shall we? I don’t have issues with shine or sweating, so I really can’t say whether this was effective at controlling shine. I can say that it applies matte, but I can’t speak to its shine-controlling abilities. It definitely reduced the appearance of my pores. I would say that this one performs the best at that and at complexion “unifying.” I think “complexion unifying” is a silly thing to call evening out your skin tone, but nevertheless this did accomplish that. I think that reducing the appearance of pores, and evening out your skin tone begets the fact that it will also hide blemishes. So check “yes” on that one as well. I have some issues with white heads and other smaller blemishes, I think that a concealer would work best to hide larger flaws, but this works well for small inconsistencies in the skin. As far as “Make-up extending” goes, I just can’t be 100% sure. I wear good quality makeup that is designed to last and I also use Urban Decay’s Makeup Setting Spray to keep my makeup from moving. I’ve had exceptional experiences with that stuff. So, I can’t say it necessarily helped my makeup stay longer, but I can say that I did not experience any straying or moving of makeup I did apply after using this product.

I have yet to be “wowed” by any primer but so far my favorite things about this one are the scent, the non-greasy application, the matte finish, the fact that it doesn’t break me out (seriously- I’ve had issues!), and the pore/ blemish/ complexion awesome-ifying.

This retails for $22 and goes on sale in Monday, August 25. In the meantime, I found this cute promotional video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ejk5uCb3TmI and here’s a picture of the product itself:

But I already have the Inspire Crops in the Bruised Berry Space Dye, so I’m not 100% sure I need these. However, I will want to at least try on the Run For Fun crops in store. I’m also wondering what the difference is between these and the Run For Your Life crops.

Also: I’m absolutely adoring all the Heathered Swiftlies Lulu is coming out with lately, Jeweled Magenta and Bruised Berry are gorgeous and this week we have Heathered Cadet Blue:

Well, that’s all I’ve got for you so far- I hope to update with more as photos of what’s new become available- particularly the Stride we’re supposed to be getting in the Great Granite print. Where’s that at!? LOL. What caught your eye this upload? Let me know in the comments below!

I really like this feature on jackets, and the Bring Back the Track jacket has it! The hood zips away when not in use!
