My Glyder Crop Collection

Hello everyone!

I thought it would be fun to talk about Glyder again, since it’s been a little while since my last post about this brand. The other thing that made me want to post about this brand is the fact that there has been some chatter about these pants (pictured below), that are sort of reminiscent of the Quiet Stripe pants by Lululemon, a very highly sought after unicorn.

screen-shot-2017-01-31-at-2-42-12-am

These are black & white striped, which is worth noting because Lululemon’s Quiet Stripe pants are a dark Navy & White, with the same stripe pattern. So, while they are very similar, they are not identical. QSWD, Lululemon’s color code for Quiet Stripe, stands for “Quiet Stripe White/ Deep Indigo.”

Here they are today, listed on eBay:

Screen Shot 2017-01-31 at 2.55.21 AM.png

Wowza!

Glyder’s offerings are $74. And if you’re looking for a Quiet Stripe alternative, you might want to check them out.

I’ve spoken about how much I like Glyders before, but this time I want to show y’all my collection. I am a HUGE fan of their Mantra Crops because they’re basically exactly like Wunder Under crops, only cheaper. The fabric content is a mix of Nylon/ Supplex, just like Lululemon, and I find them to be equally comfortable.

Without further ado, my collection of Glyder Mantra Crops:

Vintage Lululemon: Yogi Toes Mat

Hello everyone!

I found this in the archives (not really- although I do wish that I had an archive of Lululemon items… like a wine cellar, but for clothes) and I wanted to share it with you!

If you like these types of posts, you should check out the Good Old Lululemon Blog which showcases a lot of vintage Lululemon items from the “Wet Dry Warm” days of yore.

Anywho- I got this one a while back and I thought it would be fun to talk about it a bit.

This mat is an early collaboration between Yogitoes and Lululemon. It is the perfect size, 24 inches wide x 68 inches long. If you want to use it with your mat- it will cover the whole thing, or you can use it on its own. I prefer to use it with a mat. Perfect for hot yoga! It’s terrycloth, but what makes it unique are all the teeny, tiny silicone bumps that keep it from slipping during your practice. Honestly, it does slip sometimes, especially during a particularly sweaty practice, but it’s better than any other, non-silicone enhanced towel.

You can’t find Lululemon branded Yogitoes mats anymore, but you can still find them on their own. I like this one because it’s from the “groovy collection,” and certainly is eye-catching.

I hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Color Comparison: Aurora

Hey everyone!

I just wanted to do a quick(!) color comparison post for y’all! Sometimes I see a color online and it looks gorgeous, darling and I feel like I absolutely MUST have it- only to receive it in person and find that it looks way too much like another color I already have in my collection. Aurora might be one of those colors for you. I have a couple of tops in it so far (this one, and that one), which I discussed in my previous posts (here & there), and I really felt like Aurora was different enough from my other pinky-purpley tones to add it to my collection. So, without further ado:

fullsizerender-2

Left to right: Regal Plum, Heathered Regal Plum, Moonlit Magenta.

First off: The Regal Plum Sculpt tank and the Regal Plum Swiftly look so different! But it’s true: They are both Regal Plum!  That said: Of all the colors in my closet, Aurora looks most similar to the Regal Plum. All my pinks are too pink (including Paris and Raspberry) and all my other purple-red colors are too dark (like Bordeaux Drama and Black Cherry).

So, what do you think? Is Aurora going to join your collection? Does anyone else just love that color because it’s named after a Disney princess? No? Just me? Haha, as always: Thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing your opinions in the comments!

A Couple of Try-ons: The New “Hot Like Agni” line

Hello everyone!

Went to the local Lulu today and tried on the new “Hot like Agni” line!

img_4803img_4804-1

Here I’m wearing the “Hot like Agni” bra [not shown] & singlet, along with the pants of the same name. The top is in Heathered Aurora & the pants are in Darkest Magenta. The singlet was true to size for me, but the other items were not. The bra reminded me of the Arise bras, so, if you were ever a fan, you might like this one. I found that it was a size-down item for me, since the band was too wide. As for the pants, they are high rise, so the waist was a little too big in my regular size, and the hips were a little tight in my size down. The Educator I spoke to said that she too had sized down due to the waistband.

hot-like-agni-bra

Notice, the texture on the model’s bottoms? Those are the “Hot like Agni” crops, not the pants. I didn’t see them in-store, but I hope to check them out when they arrive!

Thanks for reading! What do you think of the new Hot Like Agni line!? Let me know in the comments!

Non-Lululemon Outfit of the day

Hello everyone! This is what I wore to the gym! Shockingly, nothing is Lululemon. The shirt is something I bought in China while I was there a couple of summers ago. The crops are from Zulily and are by Mono B Activewear. These leggings are 81% Nylon (comparable to the composition of Lulu leggings), and were one of the few items I found by Mono B that had a lot of Nylon, rather than Polyester. They performed well and are really comfortable. I know, all the animal print is kind of loud- but all that color makes me smile!

I also want to shout out that I just started an instagram account and I would really love to follow you on there! Follow me @lululemonexpert and I’ll follow you back!

A couple of Lulu try-ons + fit reviews

Hey everyone!

I noticed all the new stuff Lulu has put out recently and decided to pop into my local store for a quick peek! I noticed the Pow Pink is back in-store, and if you didn’t get them last time, or you’re looking to perk up your Speed Short collection, you might want to grab a pair in Pow Pink! Caveat: be careful when washing, Lulu has had issues in the past with bleeding inks :-/

They also had a few other adorable items in-store that I wanted to give a try:

img_4753

The tank I’m wearing is called the “On Track tank.” It reminds me very much of the “Back on Track” tank, without the Silverescent woven in. I did pick this up, since I was a huge fan of the Back on Track tanks. If you’re like me, and maybe sometimes straps do not always flatter your arms, I did not find that this tank dug in at all, and in fact, I found it quite comfortable. In addition, as the hang tag states below, it is meant to provide medium support to A/B cups, and in fact, I think that C cups may also find that it provides adequate support. Fabric-wise: the bra part is mostly Nylon and the tank part is half Nylon, half Polyester. Color: Heathered Aurora/ Aurora.

These High Times in Score Jacquard Black Indian Ocean. They do look nice, I like the look of the fabric, but there is something about the feel… It’s sort of bumpy. I wish I could adequately describe it. I don’t love the feel of the fabric, so these were left behind. Also: I have found myself really enjoying (and purchasing) green tones lately, so I didn’t feel the need to add these to my collection. They were true to size, maybe even on the loose side, in my opinion.

Here is a close up of the fabric so you can see what I mean:

High Times .jpeg

Here are the hang tangs for each of the items described above:

Have you tried these? What do you think about the fabric of the High Times? Let me know in the comments!

Thanks for reading!!!

New Lulu Try-ons!

Hello everyone! I thought it would be fun to do a try-on report for y’all, so I headed in and tried on a few adorable items that I want to talk to y’all about!

First off: I am absolutely in LOVE with the new pattern! It’s called Strive Multi Black!

strive-multi-lululemon

I went in and tried on the Speed Tights. I think these are true to size and they passed the bend-test. They are not see-thru. However, they are lined with white, so that’s something to keep in mind, since some sheering out of the pattern may occur as the fabric stretches. Overall, I liked them and found them comfortable. I am going to wait to see if my store gets the Pace Rivals, since I really want this pattern in a crop! Crops get more use than pants in my collection since I live in the South and it gets mighty warm down here!

I also tried on the new Fast Lane bra in this print, and liked, but did not love it. It’s supportive, and lined with black, but it just didn’t wow me. I might pick it up on WMTM, if it makes it there.

img_4670

img_4687

I also tried on these Wunder Under Pant (Hi-Rise) in Dazzle Wunder Under 50g Alpine White Black. I liked the feel. Soft without feeling too slick. These definitely have the “second skin” feel to them. If you’re familiar with Teeki’s hot pants, apparently you’ll feel right at home in these, according to a couple of reviewers online. Although I didn’t feel like the waistband might roll, some reviewers expressed that their waistband did roll, so definitely lookout for that if you’re thinking about buying these.

Then, I tried on these Wunder Unders in Midnight Tulle Multi. These are gorgeous! I really like the fabric and fit, and I almost left with them, but I decided to wait. I am not happy with how quickly things seem to be moving to WMTM lately, but if these make it there soon, then I will be happy to get a deal on them. Full size run still on Lululemon.com

If you do shop at Lululemon online, as I’m sure many of you do: Don’t forget to use ebates! It’s a website that gives you cash back just for shopping online. I installed the browser button so I can make sure I’m getting cash back every time. Use my referral link if you don’t have ebates yet & get $10 after your first purchase.

What do you think about the new prints? Let me know in the comments below!

Can we talk about this list?

Someone recently shared this list with me, and I want to have a chat about it. The list is entitled “Weird Rules that Lululemon Employees Have to Follow.” It was recently shared with me on Facebook and I just have to comment. I have so many friends that either work at Lululemon or used to work at Lululemon and I just need to talk to you about their experiences as well as the contents of this list and how it was collected. You can find the original list by clicking the link above, but I will go through the rules one by one to tell you what’s true and what’s not.

Edited to add: The Listing Headlines below, 1-6 are directly quoted from the Ranker article. My commentary follows, and anything in italics is a direct quote from an article. I hope that brings more clarity to the discussion!

1. You Must Refer to the Ideal Lululemon Customer as “Ocean”

Not entirely true. Although Lululemon states that their “ideal customer” is a woman named Ocean, it’s not heresy or anything to not talk about customers in reference to Ocean. In fact, many stores consider their local market before they think about what “Ocean” would want or wear because it’s the local market that is shopping which helps that store earn money and make their sales goals. Trust me, before the manager asks “What would Ocean wear?” she’s asking herself “Will Southerners want to wear Scuba hoodies in the Summer?”

2. You Have to Attend Lectures on Willpower

Under this heading, the author also mentions that you “You also have to watch videos on the importance of setting goals.”

I have never heard any of my friends talk about lectures on willpower, but the original author of the article that this is based on said that she did have that experience during training- but I need to unpack this article from Ranker a bit more.

So, under this heading on “lectures” the author of this article for “Ranker” links out to an article written in Cosmopolitan’s online magazine and the author of that Cosmo article is discussing an excerpt about someone else’s experience working at Lululemon. You can read the article in Cosmo here.

The author of the Cosmo article states that “After group yoga, the mornings were for lectures on willpower and videos on the importance of goal setting.” However, the author of the Cosmo article isn’t the original author of the experience working at Lululemon. He is simply restating some things mentioned by the original author in an article for Salon.

The original author in the article for salon says that “After group yoga, the mornings were for lectures on willpower and videos on the importance of goal setting starring company founder Chip Wilson” Maybe it was this 1-minute long clip? I actually didn’t get the impression that the original author was complaining about it- but subsequent articles make it seem like the goal setting experience was negative or onerous somehow. I just think she may have found it odd or at the very least different from most onboarding procedures at other clothing companies. And that, I can certainly agree with- it IS different. I don’t think a lot of other clothing companies care about what your longterm goals are. And, honestly, I wouldn’t mind being paid for a goal setting session!

So, anyways, this article for Ranker is based on an article for Cosmo that is based on the original author’s content in Salon- but it doesn’t link to her in the article.

3. You Can’t Chat or You’ll Get Fired

No one I spoke to said that you’re not allowed to chat. When I go into my local store employees are always chatting with one another about some new thing they received in-stock or about what song is playing on the store’s music system or about some class they attended, etc… However, it is a pretty busy environment, so if you’re chatting when you should be educating*guest* then you might get reprimanded. Educating= talking about the features of products in an attempt to sell them. Guests= customers.

In this “Ranked” article, they link to this article by someone who worked at Lululemon who talks about gossipping, but not about “chatting.” Here’s what she says about gossipping, which, in my opinion, is not akin to chatting. “Background conversation (i.e. gossiping) will get you fired.” The word ‘chatting’ is not mentioned anywhere in her article.

4. Reading Atlas Shrugged Is All but Mandatory
This one is harder to pin down because of the language used in the article. By saying it’s “all but mandatory,” the article admits that it is not mandatory. Lululemon break rooms have mini-libraries in them and assuming that Atlas Shrugged is in every Lulu-library, does that mean that you are forced to read it? According to this “Ranked” article, it doesn’t. So, my main question, I guess, is why is this on the list as a “weird rule,” if it doesn’t qualify as a rule?
5. If You Don’t Do Yoga, You’re Excommunicated
I’m going to break this one down sentence by sentence, because there is something to this one, but I think the word excommunicated is a tad strong. So, in this “Ranked” article, under this heading, the author says “Being a yoga gear store, it’s understandable that employee training starts with yoga sessions in the mornings. However, employees are expected to continue to work out constantly and practice yoga together on their off-hours. It’s meant to form a sense of camaraderie… but people soon realize it’s more like a crazy health food cult. If you miss one workout session, people act like your life must be falling apart.”
Breaking this down, sentence by sentence:
“Being a yoga gear store, it’s understandable that employee training starts with yoga sessions in the mornings.”
The key words here are “employee training.” Employee training last maybe a week or two at most, and there may be some of those days- or even all of them in some cases that I am not aware of- where yoga is done in the morning. Yoga (or some other form of physical activity) also occurs during team sweat sessions and during, before or after team meetings. So, what I see here is yoga during training, for which employees are paid. As well as sweat sessions and meeting yoga (or other sweaty activity), for which employees are also paid.
My opinion: as long as employees are being paid, I don’t see why this is a negative thing. If I decided to work at Lululemon I would be ecstatic to be getting paid to get fit & healthy. No downside as far as I can see.

However, employees are expected to continue to work out constantly and practice yoga together on their off-hours.
First thing: The article that this links to says nothing about practicing any type of physical activity off-hours. I read the article 4 times to check to make sure I wasn’t missing anything. However, number 24 in the linked article fits well into my narrative above about how having workouts during meetings is a good thing.

Regardless of the inaccurate attribution, this person is actually correct in that employees are expected to attend fitness classes when they are not at work. If you work at Lululemon, they will pay the fees of a certain number of fitness classes per week (PT=1, FT=2). The management does expect that people will use these classes. I’ve heard that people do feel pressured to go workout even though they don’t have time, etc… That’s unfortunate, and honestly, since the company is not paying employees to do that, I don’t think that anyone should feel obligated. But hey, it’s free advertising for the company, and if you’re interested, it’s a free $20 Pure Barre class for you.

It’s meant to form a sense of camaraderie… but people soon realize it’s more like a crazy health food cult. If you miss one workout session, people act like your life must be falling apart.”
This seemed like hyperbole to me, so I pulled a quote from the Salon article to which the author of this Ranked article is (ultimately, by way of Cosmo) referring. She says “Exercise — what sort, how often, the afterglow — was the main topic of in-store conversation, so if you skipped a day it was obvious and people asked if you were feeling OK.” Whether people asking if you were feeling OK is equivalent to people acting like your life must be falling apart, I’ll leave to you to decide.

Final thoughts on this one: You are not “excommunicated” if you don’t do yoga. However, you are expected to participate in both paid and unpaid fitness classes with coworkers.

6. You Must Live by a Strict Diet

So, this one is just not true. You don’t have to diet or anything like that. Although “gratis” or “promotions” (more specifically) are given to people who are a size 6, you don’t have to diet if you don’t want to. And in fact, according to people I know and this author, even if you gain weight it’s totally fine as long as you remain positive and have a great personality. Regarding having to eat specific things, it’s simply not true.
Final Thoughts

I hope you found my assessment of the accuracy of this article at least somewhat informative. Please let me know in the comments if you have any questions. I am also happy to clarify any of the statements I made above. I am truly interested in your feedback if you have any for me. If you have worked at Lululemon, the experiences of the people I know may not be inclusive, so if you have had any of these experiences in the same spirit expressed by the author of the Ranked article, please feel free to comment below and tell me about them. I would love to hear from you. Alternatively, certainly if you agree with my above assessment, I’d also be happy to hear from you!

As always, thank you so much for reading!

Planning: Why I chose the Happy Planner over the Erin Condren

Hello everyone!

Like I mentioned in my post, “Graduated and the Future,” I will be sharing about my newly discovered hobby: planning. If you are new to the planning community, or you just want to learn more about it, why not check out some “plan with me” videos on YouTube?

I had been contemplating even starting a new blog to talk about things not related to Lululemon but as long as I am transparent about the contents of my posts by titling them correctly, I figured that nobody would mind too much if I talk about other interests. So, if you’re here to learn more about why I chose the Happy Planner over the Erin Condren, THANK YOU for stopping by!

1. The first reason and easiest thing to point out is the price. The Erin Condren planners are $55, and that’s before any customization. If you use my code,* you can save $10, but $45 is still pricey compared to the other available options. The Happy Planners, on the other hand are almost always available for about $15. Although they are “regularly priced” $25, Michael’s and Hobby Lobby almost always have either a sale going on or at minimum a coupon “on any single item” for %40 off. I bought mine for under $15, and right now they are $12.50 at Michael’s.

*This is an affiliate link, anyone can get their own once they sign up for an account, but if you click it and use it- we both receive a $10 credit at the Erin Condren store.

2. That brings us to purchasing options. You will likely have to order the Erin Condren planner, and although I appreciate that it is assembled in America, the wait time is 8-12 business days. Plus, unless you spend $100 to qualify for free shipping, shipping is $7.95. You may be able to purchase an Erin Condren planner at a Staples, if you have one closeby, but you also wouldn’t be able to take advantage of some of the free customization options available when ordering the Erin Condren online if you decide to purchase in-store.

The Happy Planner is widely available at Michael’s and Hobby Lobby. My favorite thing about buying things in-store is that you can go see the different styles, choose your favorite and buy it on-the-spot. If you’re interested, they’re also available on Amazon*, but I’ve never seen them on there as cheap as you can find them at Michael’s if you wait for a coupon or a sale.

3. Then come some specifics. I must admit that the Erin Condren looks a whole lot sturdier than the Happy Planner. The coil bound system, the thicker covers and dividers. It’s solid  quality. But the Happy Planner has been stepping their game up. Last year, there were concerns because the tabs were not laminated. This year, all the planners that I have seen have laminated tabs. In addition, the cover is wider than the tabs and hides them when the book is closed, unlike in the Erin Condren planner, where the cover does not go over the tabs. This leaves the tabs exposed and increases the possibility that they will be damaged.

erin-condren-planner
Erin Condren Planner, tabs show
img_4646
Happy Planner, tabs don’t show

Other details of the Erin Condren Planner vs. the Happy Planner:

The ECLP has pretty vellum page inserts and a few quotes pages, while the Happy Planner doesn’t always come with quotes pages and does not come with vellum pages. However, you can buy or create your own inserts for the Happy Planner. I have already created my own inserts- look out for a post about them in the future! The ECLP also has a folder in the back and comes with 4 pages of stickers, but again, you can insert whatever you like into the Happy Planner.

4. Size. One of the things that was tempting me towards the Erin Condren planner was the assumption that it was bigger, but after checking the measurements, I realized that the Happy Planner is actually just a little bigger than the Erin Condren planner. Honestly, I was surprised because I figured that one of the reasons that Erin Condren planner was more expensive than the Happy Planner was because it must have been bigger. But the truth is that the Happy Planner is 8.62″ x 9.75″, which is slightly larger than the EC Life Planner at 7″ x 9″. Definitely surprised me.

5. Let’s talk customizability and interchangeability. Both planners offer interchangeable covers. You can buy covers for either planner in-store, online, and at some Etsy shops. I really like the fabric and leather covers they have on Etsy! Very fancy!

However, because of the binding system, only the Happy Planner allows you to take out and put in pages without just tearing them out or unbinding and rebinding the entire planner. But if you’re interested in unbinding your ECLP: it is possible. The reason for this is that the Erin Condren planner is coil-bound, while the Happy Planner is discbound. You can easily remove and add pages to the Happy Planner.

To be honest, one of my favorite things about the Happy Planner is its customizability. I love that I can add and subtract pages, if I miss a week, it’s not a big deal- because I can just take it out! Or if there are too many pages and it gets too thick, I can remove pages without ripping them out. Or if I don’t like/need a particular page, no problem! Same goes if I want to add pages, they slip in effortlessly.

For this aspect, I think that it really depends on your personal perspective on planners & planning. For me, I’m planning to use my planner as more of a memory planner & as a creative outlet. Given that, I really like to have as many customization options as possible for my planner. If you are strictly using your planner for planning purposes, and don’t really need a ton of customization, you might not regard being able to add or subtract pages as a key feature.

Yet another point of customization that I could enjoy because of the Happy Planner is that if the planner gets too full, rather than removing pages, I might also opt for larger discs*!

So, there you have it. I chose the Happy Planner, and I’m sticking with it! I hope you enjoyed this post and I hope that it made your choice easier if you’re thinking about getting a planner.

Thanks for reading! Are you planning to plan this year? Which planner did you choose? Was it one of these two- or did you pick a different one? Why? Let me know in the comments!

2016 In Review and My Favorites

Hello everyone!

As far as Lululemon goes, this year has been pretty ‘miss’ for me, with a few hits in between. I really feel like I’ve been more difficult to impress, and that their offerings for most of the year have been rather lackluster. One thing I especially missed are the Herringbone and Pique prints. They used to bring those every year, but not this year… I wonder why they’re missing!?

I usually do a top 5, but this year, I just want to give a shout out to some of the good things.

Ready To Rulu Pants

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE these pants, I’ve mentioned them before– they are amazing for running errands, going to class, mulling about the house, etc… Comfy Rulu (with the exception of the Spray Jacquard ones whose fabric is really not up to par), a zipper pocket big enough for your phone and cousins of my other favorites: the Base Runners. These are an improvement on that design and I will enjoy each of the pairs that I own.

Wild & Free Tights

So much fun, these tights have mesh on the side and a large pocket too! I just think they’re pretty in the Deepest Magenta color I got them in.

fall-new-white-black-wild-free-tights
“Fall New White/ Black” not a huge fan of this color, but love these tights!

These are the ones I have 🙂

New Website with the “closet” tab
I actually like the new website, which I don’t think is in line with the thinking of a lot of other people. I like the colors of the layout, although I must admit- I am not a fan of all the clicking and scrolling that’s necessary to view products. However, I am someone who likes change, so maybe that’s why I like it- or it could be the “closet” tab, where you can see all your past purchases. In any case, Lululemon definitely spent way too much time & effort on their website, and not enough on giving us the feminine details on our clothes that we’ve come to expect and even took away a method of communication we were able to have with them by shutting down HeyLululemon.com. I still miss HeyLululemon.com. The community got together there and brought their best  ideas and it gave Lululemon the opportunity to respond to questions and concerns openly.
Real Quick Crops
I talked about these in this post, so I won’t go on and on about fit, but these are just wonderful. Plus they reminded me of my Run For Your Life crops. Among others, these came in these two gorgeous, almost regal colors: Deep Green and Deep Zinfandel. Both of which found their way into my collection. Definitely a fave from this year.
Vent It Out Crops
Sure, these are cute crops, but honestly it’s this color that did it for me. I wore these all summer long.

APRIL

April. Just April. That whole month had such vibrancy and color. I loved the new Sculpt tanks, the Seven Wonders print, Blurry Belle, Pretty Prism, some Foli Manifesto stuff, I know lots of people liked the True Self crops, Space Dye Camo Alberta Lake Fresh Teal, Rio Nights, a splash of Bali Breeze, Pure Practice Pants, Wave Twist Lilac Caspian, some Jungle Green items, the Making Moves line, some Speed Track shorts in compelling & bright colors (Rio Nights and Deep Zinfandel), Align Crops (not my cup of tea, but some were anxious to have them), Var City Crops (ditto tea comment), a re-stock of the popular If You’re Luck LS’ from the previous year, colorful Define Jackets- And that is not even everything. I didn’t mention a bunch of new tank styles and the pretty rose printed Swiftly that came out in April (well now I did), but as you can plainly see, April was easily the best Lulu month of 2016. It wasn’t 100% perfect (I was not a fan of the Sit In Silence scarf), but there were so many high points.

Hope for the New Year

Well, I hope Lululemon takes our community’s advice and start reincorporating those feminine details into its offerings. What was your favorite item or items this year? Flops?

Member April? I member.

Let me know what you think in the comments below. Thanks for reading! 🙂
