Lululemon Sale Section has SO MANY Goodies this week!

Hello Friends!

I just want to take some time today to tell you about some of the goodies on We Made Too Much -ie: Lululemon’s Sale Section!

I mentioned these in my previous post– and I actually didn’t think the black ones would go on sale, but there is a FULL size range in the black and the Garnet, if you’re interested- how exciting! I am tempted by the garnet! Note: As far as I can tell, all the Lunar New Year stuff is on sale, so check it out!

I kind of love these, but I literally can’t think of any scenario where they might be appropriate… but I still love them? And they are the VELVET Wunder Unders. I love them in all the colors- except Adobe… which happens to be marked down the most, so clearly I’m not alone in my assessment. But here they are in Black and Garnet and Spanish Oak!

The Velvet Aligns, however, I already have in black, and am considering getting the Garnet. Because they are not velvet all over, and just have that one stripe, I feel like I can kind of get away with wearing them anywhere 🙂

The Mapped Out High Rise Tights are also on the markdown rack in Laguna, Black and Black/ Florid Flash. I have these in Laguna and they are so comfortable, to me they have that classic “nothing on” feel to them (in term of softness!) and they move with you. I really like them, but some people in the reviews are saying they are made small. Personally, I did buy my regular size, but you might want to check these out in-store!

The Rest Less pullovers are on sale! If you don’t have one, I definitely recommend them! I have a few from previous years and they are great for layering. They have such a classic “I’m going skiing” cut to them- Okay, so I’m not sure if that is really “a thing” or not, but that’s the vibe they give me. Of course, of all the colors on sale, I really only like the Lavender, since I literally can’t keep White clean and the others just aren’t calling to me.

The Invigorate Bra! Yessssss! I have a few of these- which I definitely also bought on sale- and I love them. I only buy these and Energy bras, these days, although I do have a few other bras in my collection, these are the two styles I’m loving lately. Here is the cutest one in Wee Are From Space Jet Set Blue Night Tide/Night Diver– Side note: Where are all the Space Dyes of late!? I miss them so much!

There are a few wraps and ponchos on sale, but I really like the Sit In Lotus Wrap. There are still plenty of colors to choose from- and it really, really looks like they actually made too much considering the vast range of sizes and colors available. I really like this in the Lavender Dusk color, and Heathered Dark Olive is cute too. Ugh. If I was still working full time (insert shameless I’m a full-time mommy for now , follow me on Twitter, plug here) I would love to keep this in a desk drawer for cold days at the office. So effortless, très chic! PS: Why is the air conditioning at offices allllllways at like 100%?

There are also some Scuba hoodies on sale- I don’t buy a lot of these (they don’t hold their value well when it comes to re-sale, but that’s a whole nother topic for another day), but I did get one: The Polar Lights Blue Multi and I like the Frozen Vista Alpine White Multi… so, I’ll put that on the maybe list.

I am SO into the Reveal 1/2 Zip Aurora long sleeve tops! I love it in both the black and the Larkspur! Ugh! Why do there have to be so many pretties to choose from!?

Anyways, sale section on Lululemon.com is strong today! I think this is where I’ll stop, but there are plenty more adorable things on sale online this week & definitely worth taking a gander if you haven’t popped into the WMTM section lately. Let me know in the comments if you see anything you like!

As always, thank you for reading & I hope you’re having an amazing day!

Lululemon’s NEW Lunar New Year Collection

Welcome, ladies &…. well, maybe like 3 gentlemen, to my bloggity. The past couple of years, Lululemon has released a Lunar New Year collection, and for reasons I can’t even fathom, I have neglected to talk about it specifically. So, let’s take a look at this year’s collection. Happy Chinese New Year!

Also, to my Chinese-speaking readers:

新年快乐!🎉🎆🎊

The Lunar New Year Scuba

I like it, the features that make it unique is the Dark Red color, the, what appears to be gold, zipper, and the “Lululemon,” written on the side. It also comes in the color below called “Fool’s Gold.” I think this will go on sale eventually. They’ve released Dark Red Scuba’s in the past, so I don’t think this will sell out or anything. And honestly, I think the “Fool’s Gold” color is not pretty. I hate to say it! Not my thing. Maybe it looks cuter in person?

They also released Align pants labeled “Lunar New Year,” in Misty Mocha and Dark Red. I don’t see how the Misty Mocha ones are Lunar New Year related, personally. There are no additional details to these Aligns.

There are also three new Energy Bra *Long Line ‘s available under the Chinese Lunar New Year tag. This color, Ornemental Floral Multi, is super pretty, IMO. (Ornemental is spelled with the “e” on the website, but my spell check wants it to be Ornamental-lol). This one also comes in the Dark Red and Misty Mocha as well. They all seem to be the same as the regular Energy Bra *Long Line ‘s except in different colors. Personal opinion: I don’t like the Long Line ones because, honestly, they just don’t fit my body right. Because the space beneath my bust line goes out and and isn’t straight down, the longer band rides up on me.

Wunder Unders also got released and these Lunar New Year editions have Lululemon written down the side, much like these special edition Scuba hoodies. They come in Dark Red and Black. I like them- I do wonder if the text is staggered the way it looks here- not into that, but it could be a pixel thing? Let me know in the comments if you’ve seen these in person and they’re like that.

Then, there is this gorgeous Define Jacket in Black/ Black/ Gold. I’m in love, and have not picked it up yet, but am considering it. It’s practically guaranteed if it goes on sale! But, like, a real sale. Not like $9 off.

It’s shiny in person. I wish it came in the red, actually.

There is a Dark Red Swiftly Tech Short Sleeve Crew, which does not have any special features that indicate Special Edition, other than the color, I suppose.

This one also comes in a Racerback format.

Then we have the same print as the Define Jacket in the Speed Wunder Tights– these, I did pick up. They’re also in the Nulux fabric. They’re gorgeous and I love them and I am glad that I haven’t seen them in other colors because I would want them all.

They also have a Love Crew *Lunar New Year, in red and in Misty Mocha.

I like it, it looks super comfy. It is made of Pima Cotton though, so I imagine that it is.

This is the Emerald Long Sleeve Lunar New Year, and it comes in Garnet, Red and White. It also says Lululemon across the front.

They have a couple of Dark Red bags. Here is the All Your Small Things bag:

There’s also a “mini” version of this bag. The bags don’t really seem unique to me at all- I won’t be picking these up.

I like the coloring of this Purist Yogo Dot CNY water bottle:

They went all out with this Dark Red color! There’s even a Lunar New Year variety City Adventurer Backpack Mini 10L.

They also have a ton of other items in the “Lunar New Year” tab, that don’t appear to have any additional features apart from that they are Dark Red. Fast & Free Tights, Align crops, a Dark Red Define jacket, Love Tee V, Swiftly Relaxed Long Sleeve, and Pace Rival Crop. Let me know if y’all notice anything apart from the color that distinguishes these as special edition for the Lunar New Year!

Anyways, this is a lot of red. I like red, but I have some of the previous year’s collections and the Lululemon 20Y anniversary collection, which also features a Dark Red color. So, I won’t be getting much, if any of this apart from the pretty sparkly Black/ Gold print.

Let me know what you think about the Lunar New Year collection this time around!

Happy Scale: Weight Loss Made Motivated

Well, it’s about that time again. That time of year when everyone resolves that THIS will be their year! In the spirit of those of us who are feeling especially gung ho about losing weight in 2020, I wanted to review this app, that I think will help you, because it helps me to not freak out when I see a higher number on the scale- even though I’ve been “good” this past week.

Author’s note: I am not sponsored by, nor am I affiliated with Happy Scale- I just love this freakin app so much the article ends up sounding way too positive- I just want you to know, I’m not getting paid to say any of this, and I don’t make money from anyone who downloads it- I don’t even have a custom link for tracking. I just love the app. With that said, on to the article…

Say Hello to Happy

A few years back, I paid for the MyFitnessPal Premium subscription. It’s expensive- but I couldn’t find any other actual consumer reviews. Sure there were some affiliated people and some people explaining the features, but no one actually compared the basic version with the premium experience from the perspective of someone about to pay like $80/ year (or $10/ month!) for the service. If you’re interested in reading about that, find my article here.

That said, MyFitnessPal is one of my favorite and most used apps for weight loss. If you didn’t know, I recently had a baby, and am currently on a postpartum weight loss journey that you can read about on my personal blog here. Apart from MFP, another app I open daily is called “Happy Scale.”

I love Happy Scale because it takes all the distortion out of weight loss and lets you see how you’re really performing- good or bad. The holidays recently behind us, I know that you, like myself, have enjoyed many a large and hearty meal- just knowing we’d pay for it the very next day on the scale. Lo & behold, I’ve gained 4 pounds overnight. Except that’s not true, and we both know that’s not true. That’s when Happy Scale comes to the rescue!

Every morning, after I weigh myself, rather than paying attention to the number on the scale, I open my Happy Scale app. There I’ll find my progress, personal best 10-day weight and, most importantly, my trendlines. I also see the app’s best estimate as to when I’ll reach my goal weight based on one of three different rates of weight loss, but that’s easier to show than to tell! Look for pics below!

Before writing this article, I wanted to reach out to Happy Scale for comment- because I was feeling all journalisty and that’s what they would do. I was completely shocked to get any type of response- and the creator of Happy Scale, an indie developer, Russ, told me a few interesting things, including about a new feature currently being worked on! More about that later though.

Happy Scale’s First User

Russ, the developer of Happy Scale, used this app to lose over 100 pounds! He made the app, to help him lose weight, and it has helped many others to date! To learn more about Russ, and his weight loss journey, take a look at this inspiring Twitter thread, where he updated his weight loss monthly, as it happened! It will also show you some screen shots of Happy Scale, which will help you see how it can be motivating- and how it can work to help you in your weight loss journey too!

What’s IN the App?

Every morning, after I get off the scale, I open my Happy Scale app. This is what I see:

As you can see, this app shows my “moving average,” which is probably the most accurate weight for me because it’s based on a weighted average calculated from the last 14 days with more “weight” put on more recent weigh-ins. If you don’t like that- you can use the “Simple 7-day moving average” option, available in the settings tab.

Here, you’ll also see a “10-Day Best” weight-in. Personally, I find it encouraging to see my “10-Day Best” weigh-in. That way, I am encouraged, even though, most of the time, my 10-day best is not the current day.

Finally, at the very top, is your most recent weigh-in. Also, generally speaking, useful information, if for nothing else than to know that the app is syncing properly. I have mine linked to my “Health” app on my iPhone, which syncs to my MyFitnessPal, which syncs to my Nokia health app, which collects its data from my Withings wireless scale, as I weigh in each morning. (Well, almost every morning, I forget or am staying with family every so often, so I don’t always weigh in.) Note: Auto-sync is a Premium feature.

Happy Scale Breaks Your BIG Goal into Manageable Milestones

Beneath those top numbers is your current milestone progress. Happy Scale divides your weight loss into 10 milestones. This is working really well for me, and I feel like having these short-term goals is a healthy way to look at my weight loss, and keep it feeling achievable. As you can see, I’m currently 56% of the way through milestone 5. Basically, it takes your best weigh-in and applies that progress to the milestone. I can also see that I only have 1.6 pounds to go til I complete it! That keeps me excited and motivated!

See What’s Trending

Scrolling down, you’ll then come to your trends. This is also calculated by comparing moving averages, but you get to choose which ones! You can compare, 7, 30, 90 or all-time moving averages by hitting the settings icon and changing it up. I recently changed mine to 7-day. Having the “Lost All-Time” there is useful, just as a data point, but I find the milestones more motivating. For me, sometimes, when I see “Lost All-Time,” I end up just thinking about how much further I need to go, and the Milestones help me quiet those thoughts, and I get to think: “just another pound and a half!”

Predicting Your Achievements

Beneath the trends, are predictions. I find these useful for thinking that my goals really aren’t as far away as I think they are and that they are achievable. These predictions are fairly accurate, in my experience, and I’m very much looking forward to March. Something fun you can do in the settings is also ask for “What will I weigh by *day of week*” or “What will I weight by *calendar date*” or “When will I reach *specific weight amount*” Here’s what mine looks like with those added:

Charting Your Progress

Below the Predictions, you’ll find an adjustable chart.

As you can see, I have mine set to 1 year, but I toggle between the options and it gives me yet another way to view my progress, and celebrate it.

If you take a look at the bottom of the screen, you’ll see a “reports” tab. Here’s what my weekly report looks like:

Of course, you have the option of toggling between weekly, monthly and annual reports. Moving further to the right, is a Logbook, this is just where your weigh-ins are stored and you can enter them manually, or if you have the Health App that syncs to this one, they will just show up here.

Premium Version Inclusions

If you’re not a premium user, and you check out the “settings” area, you’ll see a tab that says “What’s In The Deluxe Edition?” If you click there, this is what comes up:

Here is the full list of available features in the deluxe version:

Current pricing for the deluxe version is shown at the bottom. $1.99/ month, $11.99 for a year, or a $29.99 one-time payment for lifetime access to premium.

So, what you get is extras like being able to have the algorithm predict when you’ll weight “x” or what you’ll weigh on “x” date. So, if, for example, you have a party or special occasion coming up- you’ll be able to know approximately what you’ll weight by then. Another thing that comes with Happy Scale Deluxe that I like is the auto-sync feature with the Apple Health app. I also find those weekly reports useful to see week over week, how much I’m losing. The deluxe version also comes with annual reports, that I probably won’t use, and I’m unlikely to ever download a CSV file of my weights, but if you’re a data junkie, you might be into that. Of course there’s a lot to be said for supporting a small business, but in my opinion, the app is helpful and the deluxe features really add to the usefulness and motivational ability of the app and therefore, it’s worth the coin. If I didn’t already have the deluxe lifetime version, I’d buy it again.

The Future of Happy Scale

Right now, the developer is working on a new feature allowing users to pinch & zoom in on their charts, and it’s almost ready for publishing! It was published in late December and is now available! Here’s a video that shows you how it works! For now, the Happy Scale app is available only on IOS. Hopefully, there will be availability for Android in the future. If I hear about an Android version, I’ll update this post!

Final Thoughts

Personally, I love Happy Scale. I especially love the Milestones and seeing my Trends improve. It looks like a slot machine when you tap it, and that’s admittedly kind of fun 🙂 Happy Scale helps me lose weight by keeping me motivated and helping me to see the big picture, while also helping me understand that I’ll achieve my goal one step, or milestone, at a time. I hope that you check out the app, and that it helps you reach your weight loss goals. If you do download the app- let me know what you think in the comments or find me on Twitter, @lululemonexpert

Lululemon Boxing Day 2019 Deals!

Hello! I just wanted to make a quick post talking about my in-store experience I’m just leaving from this boxing day!

The first thing I’ll say is that if you’re apprehensive at all about leaving your house this morning- definitely just check the website first. Not only were all the deals I saw in-store also online, if your size is sold out online, there is a feature on there that will tell you in there is a store in your area that has your size in-stock.

My store was SUPER busy and the line was about 15 people deep, so I did not buy anything. I have a couple of things on my maybe list that I’ll pick up online- IF I decide I want them.

In any event- I just wanted to let you know that the deals in-store seem to be the same online so, if you were thinking that they might be different, you can rest assured that they are not. The only difference was a longer line- and also, my store has a DJ today, so that is a nice touch.

Happy Shopping! And I hope you had a very merry Christmas!

Manifesto Color Comparison

Hello 👋

I just want to do a really quick post about the Manifesto print from this year compared to last year’s Manifesto print. So, they are really close but the newest one has a gold tone to it, that last year’s manifesto print did not, making it more noticeable on the item itself. Here is a side-by-side of last year’s “20YR Manifesto Embossed Black” and this year’s “20YR Manifesto Foil Black.”

As you can see, the one on the right, the “foil” from this year is shinier and has a golden-ish tone to it compared to last year’s offering.

I hope this helps you decide whether you’re interested or not based on what you got in Manifesto print from last year if you love the manifesto print like I do. I think they’re both pretty, but I think I like this year’s better in the black and last year’s better in the red.

Let me know what you think! Do you love the Manifesto print as much as I do? Also: Did you stop by Lululemon today? It’s Black Friday, so they’ll have a ton of Sale items out!

Lululemon Fall 2019 Faves

Hello Everyone!

I am ABSOLUTELY adoring every single thing at Lululemon right now! I picked out a few items, and I’m going to talk about them here, and on YouTube, where you can find me too!

The first thing I want to chat about is the new “Swiftly Speed Racerback
Shine.
” Now, I totally admit that it is a gimmick, but I think the *Shine* fabric is SOOOOO cute! Plus, they did a really good job with it too. I don’t know if you’ve ever touched items by other brands that have tried to include a shiny fabric in their weave, but usually it is gritty in texture and not pleasant to the touch. While I wouldn’t say that what Lululemon achieved is perfection, I will say that I hardly noticed the fabric the other day when I wore this to the gym, and that it does feel mostly soft to the touch.

The Sculpt Tank 2 offerings right now are cute, and I just want to quickly mention them, since I’ve spotted some on sale for half off(!) locally. Even though, I do prefer the Sculpt tank 1’s, I still enjoy the fit and feel of the new Sculpt tanks, so here’s a couple I had picked up- note: they’re not on sale online yet- I bet they will be come Black Friday/Cyber Monday

The next thing I wanna talk about IS on sale (YAY!) and that’s the Fast & Free Crops! I love the little bit of reflectivity on the base of the calf & the sheer comfort of these. It’s one of those items you forget you have on, and Lululemon has made these perfect for the gym. I wore them the other day and never had to pull them up once! I might get another pair, since they are on sale, and I did enjoy the experience of these. No zipper pocket or cute ruching at the base, so not exactly like the Speed tights, but similar.

I also want to talk shorts: Align vs Fast & Free. I really like both of these, but I think they have different purposes and are for different people. If you like Yoga, you might want to go for the Aligns. If you’re planning on wearing them jogging, then I’d go for the Fast & Frees. Bottom line though: As we know, Nulu fabric just isn’t going to stand the test of time the same way that Nulux is, so if you’re looking to get the most bang for your buck, pick up the Fast & Frees. However, the aligns are crazy soft… So, if you love that feeling, you might want to grab the Aligns instead- or as well.

As we all know, I simply can’t have enough Rulu in my life, and the Runderful Long Sleeve is simply gorgeous this year. It is a form-fitting long sleeve with reflective details on the sleeve and includes the thumbholes and cuffins we all love. I like the black and am into the Camo- but I would love to know what the knotted Jacquard feels like, I wonder if it is as soft as the other colors?

Next up: Align Super High-Rise Pant 28″ Velvet

Oh my goodness are these ever SOFT! I think the velvety goodness adds a little holiday flare, which, basically does preclude them from use at other times of the year, unless you don’t follow rules like that in which case, rock on, you rebel! I love them. They’re so cute & soft & fun and I want them all. But I do think the Garnet is particularly nice. Here they are in black though:

My FAVORITE Fall item over the last 3 years has been the Ready to Rulu pants. They’re Rulu, so comfy, comfy, comfy! They remind me of the Base Runners of old. Big pockets, great colors, comfortable, good quality- I even used to wear my black ones to the office, yes, really! They’re amazing!

Next, we have a very giftable item, the Fast & Free backpack. These little things are great! Anti-bounce for those long runs, and hydration-pack compatible: hello CamelBak, Lululemon is coming for you! LOL Jk. Everyone can use a little backpack for runs- but the price is a little luxury at $128, so I’m sure whomever you gift it to will feel super special!

Honorable mention to the Perfectly Oversized Crew. Perfectly oversize, and perfect for chilly, lazy days. I can totally see myself wearing this over the holidays. It’s comfy & cozy, and will fit over basically any other top, so it’s good for to & from as well. Otherwise boring, this would actually make a good gift.

Thanks so much for stopping by! And if you made it to the end…. why not come visit me on Twitter? See you over there!

What do you think of my picks of the season? Let me know in the comments below!!!

Lululemon.com Now Selling Other Brands of Self Care Products

Hello Internet People!

I was just checking Lululemon’s website for new arrivals, since the Autumn season is upon us, and Lululemon will be coming out with all my favorites that I’m sure I will “need,” and I noticed a few new arrivals that aren’t branded or co-branded with Lululemon! I can’t remember the last time I saw items on Lululemon website that weren’t at least co-branded, for example the recent Barry’s gym and Soul Cycle collections. Perhaps those necklaces from last year? Were those co-branded or not? – Of course, I had to check! They were co-branded, here is an article about them.

The bad news is that I don’t think they should be branching out this way. I think Lululemon should sell Lululemon and branching out and selling other brands opens them up to some risks. For example, if the quality doesn’t hold up, or if the clientele doesn’t like these products or if they’re simply not seeking to purchase them from Lululemon. I, for one, prefer to purchase my Coola products from Ulta to get those sweet, sweet points!

It was only just recently that Lululemon started selling their own branded Self Care items, which I reviewed, and this branching out into self care can work for Lululemon, but now selling other brands of self care in addition to their own seems like they’re moving too quickly and branching out too far from their core capacities as a brand.

The good news is that these are, in my experience, good products. I’ve tried the Coola setting spray and the Sunscreen Lotion and I think they’re both quality products. The lotion is my go-to and it’s what I’ve been using for about 3 years now. The Setting Spray, I believe came in one of my subscription boxes and I do like it, but it’s not going to be replacing my MAC Fix+ anytime soon. I haven’t yet tried the Sunscreen Spray, also newly available on Lululemon.com.

There are also some Davines products available for sale. Again, a great brand. I’ve tried many Davines hair products and absolutely adore the scents they use and the way they make my coarse (ugh :-/ ) hair feel after I use them. It looks like the full size is available at Walmart for a lot cheaper than at Lululemon, but at the same time, it is being sold through a third party vendor, so it was probably purchased on clearout as overstock and is being re-resold, so it’s a personal choice whether you want to save the money or buy from Lululemon directly. – That is, if you’re even interested in trying it at all. My opinion on Davines products is that they work great, they smell divine, but boy are they expensive and because they’re not sold at Ulta (or even Sephora) where I get rewarded for shopping, I’d rather buy Living Proof or S Factor hair care products if I’m wanting to go high end. Links are to my number one favorite from each brand.

Curious as to what y’all think about the new self care options at Lululemon. They also had an anti-chafe balm and some shower sheets, but I’ve never tried these specific products, anything like them or anything from their brands, so I don’t have much to say. I might try to shower wipes, but I don’t personally have much use for an anti chafe balm, maybe I’ll make my husband try it, lol.

Until then, Thanks for reading and let me know in the comments or on Twitter (@lululemonexpert) what you think about Lululemon branching out!

To you early birds who visit my blog the day I publish a new article: Thank you for coming to visit my blog- I apologize if any of the links above are wonky- I am writing and editing this entirely on mobile to see if it’s possible to make a completely seamless blogpost on the go. I’ll fix anything that doesn’t work when I get home!

The Lululemon Manifesto: The Controversies(!) and also my favorite Manifesto-printed items

Hello friends!

I was fondly recalling my favorites out of all my Lululemon clothes and much of the Manifesto print came to mind. That’s when I thought it would be fun to talk about my favorite pieces and also discuss the controversial and evolving document that is: The Lululemon Manifesto.

The manifesto is not just a document, it’s a living embodiment of values that Lululemon is expressing as a part of their brand. I think they’ve become more mainstream recently, and while Lululemon used to espouse “irreverence,” they now are more conformist to please the average consumer and their stockholders. We can see the evolution from irreverence to increased conformity by looking at the advice on the documents over time. Lululemon’s core audience “got” the inside jokes, while the general public & mainstream media has ridiculed or berated their choice of words. Even when the phrases on the manifesto seemed odd, most Lululemon fans quickly forgave the slip-ups. A good example of how fans got the inside jokes was when Lululemon was hiring a new CEO after Christine Day stepped down. They put up a cheeky ad on their site, and the media criticized whether they should be doing that when the company was having difficulties at the time. Most people I spoke to at the time thought it was funny and we laughed about it, but we can hold two thoughts in our minds at the same time and also were complaining about the ongoing issues that Lululemon was having.

That’s not the only time something Lululemon wrote caused controversy! In 2008, after learning that some phrases printed on their bags were disturbing to some guests, rather than destroying the bags, they chose to cover the phrases. Unfortunately, some people were still able to view the phrases, and Lululemon eventually decided to destroy the bags. Phrases such as “Some brief or quick-fix incidences when our minds are clear to be creative are….when drunk or stoned…just after an orgasm,” “The athlete’s high is the most long-lasting as it can last up to six hours,” “There is little difference between addicts and fanatic athletes. Both are continually searching for a way to remain in a creative state,” and “You only have 30,000 days to live and then you are dead,” were present on the bags.

Back in 2008, Lululemon also removed the phrase “Coke, Pepsi and all other pops will be known as the cigarettes of the future. Colas are not a substitute for water. They are just another cheap drug made to look great by advertising.” It was explained, at the time, by Chief Executive Bob Meers as simply a regular update to the manifesto “in order to stay fresh in message,” and was not a response to any cola company.

Yet another controversial phrase that once graced the bags was “Sunscreen absorbed into the skin might be worse for you than sunshine. Get the right amount of sunshine.” Some people thought that the messaging could be dangerous as it encouraged people to go without sunscreen. This, at a time when skin cancer rates were on the rise, according to a CTV news article on the subject. Lululemon issued a response saying that the advice was “not research-based,” and, I love this, that the Manifesto is a “collection of statements that are ever-evolving and intended to spark conversation.” Well, they’ve definitely sparked conversation over the years! That’s for sure!!!

Without further adieu, here is a short discussion on two versions of the manifesto.

As it stands, the newest version, updated in celebration of their 20th Anniversary can be found, for download on either mobile or desktop, here. So, if you need a new background for either your phone or computer, here’s something for you! However, there is a history of this document that I’m also interested in exploring.

Let’s take a look at the new Anniversary Edition Manifesto first. I was able to find all of the following advice and sayings on the newest iteration:

  • Breathe deeply
  • Namaste
  • Ignore the haters, including yourself
  • Creativity is maximized when you are living in the moment
  • Your biggest opportunity for growth is when it all hits the fan
  • Reconnect with nature. The better you know it the less you take it for granted. (Love you, Vancouver.)
  • Gratitude is contagious
  • That which matters most should never give way to that which matters least
  • Posi+ive +hough+s, words, and actions create posi+ive +hough+s, words, and ac+ions
  • Open your ears, eyes and heart & Open your mind
  • Jealousy works the opposite way you want it to
  • Replace the word try with will and watch the magic happen
  • The most important answers will never be found in a search bar
  • The pursuit of happiness is the source of unhappiness
  • Before speaking, ask yourself: Is it kind? Is it necessary? Is it true?
  • You attract love when you love yourself
  • Treat goals like coconuts. Hit them hard, crack them open, celebrate
  • Do one thing a day that scares you
  • Put away your phone. The real world is not on hold.
  • Life is full of setbacks; success is determined by how you handle setbacks
  • This is not your practice life. This is all there is
  • Stress is related to 99% of all illness
  • Friends are more important than money
  • Listen, listen, listen and then as intentional questions
  • Vulnerability makes a good leader great
  • Hope is not a strategy
  • Do Yoga Be Yoga

Those are the ones I could read from the downloads, I think there are a couple of other ones I couldn’t quite make out.

Here is what is found on the 2012 version of the Lululemon Manifesto:

  • Drink FRESH water and as much water as you can. Water flushes unwanted toxins from your body and keeps your brain sharp.
  • A daily hit of athletic-induced endorphins gives you the power to make better decisions, helps you be at peace with yourself, and offsets stress.
  • Do one thing a day that scares you.
  • Listen, listen, listen, and then ask strategic questions.
  • Write down your short and long-term GOALS four times a year. Two personal, two business and two health goals for the next 1, 5 and 10 years. Goal setting triggers your subconscious computer.
  • Life is full of setbacks. Success is determined by how you handle setbacks.
  • Your outlook on life is a direct reflection of how much you like yourself.
  • That which matters the most should never give way to that which matters the least.
  • Stress is related to 99% of all illness.
  • Jealousy works the opposite way you want it to.
  • The world is changing at such a rapid rate that waiting to implement changes will leave you 2 steps behind. DO IT NOW, DO IT NOW, DO IT NOW!
  • Friends are more important than money.
  • Breathe deeply and appreciate the moment. Living in the moment could be the meaning of life.
  • Take various vitamins. You never know what small mineral can eliminate the bottleneck to everlasting health.
  • Don’t trust that an old age pension will be sufficient.
  • Visualize your eventual demise. It can have an amazing effect on how you live for the moment.
  • The conscious brain can only hold one thought at a time. Choose a positive thought.
  • Live near the ocean and inhale the pure salt air that flows over the water, Vancouver will do nicely.
  • Observe a plant before and after watering and relate these benefits to your body and brain.
  • Practice yoga so you can remain active in physical sports as you age.
  • Dance, sing, floss and travel.
  • Children are the orgasm of life. Just like you did not know what an orgasm was before you had one, nature does not let you know how great children are until you have them.
  • Successful people replace the words ‘wish’, ‘should’ and ‘try’, with ‘I will’.
  • Creativity is maximized when you’re living in the moment.
  • Nature wants us to be mediocre because we have a greater chance to survive and reproduce. Mediocre is as close to the bottom as it is to the top, and will give you a lousy life.
  • lululemon athletica creates components for people to live longer, healthier and more fun lives. If we can produce products to keep people active and stress-free, we believe the world will become a much better place.
  • Do not use cleaning chemicals on your kitchen counters. Someone will inevitably make a sandwich on your counter.
  • SWEAT once a day to regenerate your skin.
  • Communication is COMPLICATED. We are all raised in a different family with slightly different definitions of every word. An agreement is an agreement only if each party knows the conditions for satisfaction and a time is set for satisfaction to occur.
  • What we do to the earth we do to ourselves.
  • The pursuit of happiness is the source of all unhappiness.

There are a few in there, that I personally miss as an old school Lululemon client. I love “Dance, Sing, Floss and Travel.” That one is not controversial, and I really wish it would have stayed.

I’m glad they kept “Do one thing a day that scares you.” I think it’s important to encourage people to step out of their comfort zones.

They changed “Listen, listen, listen, then ask strategic questions” to “Listen, listen, listen, then ask intentional questions.” I don’t even have an opinion on this, I just kind of wonder why, since it’s so similar, except “intentional” is more of a mot-du-jour than “strategic.”

The old manifesto reflected Lululemon’s values, according to the brand’s founder, Chip Wilson. As confirmed by Bob Meers in 2008 as a response to the removal of the quote about cola, Bob stated simply that the manifesto “is company founder and chairman Chip Wilson’s vision and point of view.” Back then, Chip mostly emphasized elevating one’s self from mediocrity to greatness. “Our bags are visual reminders for ourselves to live a life we love and conquer the epidemic of mediocrity. We all have a John Galt inside of us, cheering us on. How are we going to live lives we love?” Chip Wilson via HuffPo

The new manifesto reflects values, post Wilson: “The newly designed manifesto showcases Lululemon’s long-standing brand values across nine themes, including: integrity, personal responsibility, social impact, honesty/authenticity, overcoming fear, greatness, purpose, elevating the world (even on hard days), fun + laughter, sweat + the practice of yoga.” -Lululemon via PhillyVoice

I like both versions, but some of the things in the old one strike me as odd, or tone-deaf. Like “Take various vitamins. You never know what small mineral can eliminate the bottleneck to everlasting health.” Yes, I suppose this might be true, there are also studies that show that vitamins result in little more than expensive urine, but we can let the experts duke it out on that one, and, for the record: I do take vitamins. I just think the elimination of the “bottleneck to everlasting health” is not found in a pill.

Another one that strikes me as a little odd is “Do not use cleaning chemicals on your kitchen counters. Someone will inevitably make a sandwich on your counter.” Okay… Full disclosure: I only use Method cleaners on my counters, but I’m not over here, judging someone who uses “chemical” (in quotes because everything, even water, is technically a chemical) cleaners on their counters. … … Slightly judging people who don’t put down a cutting board or plate before making a sandwich though 😉

“Communication is COMPLICATED. We are all raised in a different family with slightly different definitions of every word. An agreement is an agreement only if each party knows the conditions for satisfaction and a time is set for satisfaction to occur.” – I love this one. The first part that emphasizes that we all have different definitions of every word is more important in everyday life than we realize. Sometimes, when you’re having a conversation with someone, you don’t realize that you’re actually either in agreement or in disagreement with them based on their definitions of the words that are being used. I have a degree in Political Science, and I could summarize a good deal of my experience with a chart and this piece of advice: As people (or academics), we are entitled to have our own interpretations of the meaning of words that we use in our arguments and if we can establish the definitions of the words being used in an argument, often, we can win that argument. Just something (one of the only useful things) I learned in my grad-level classes.

There is so much more to this document that I could discuss, and I may return to it in the future either by updating this post or making a new one, but I do actually want to get to my favorite Manifesto printed garments!

This Pace Setter and these Speed Shorts

Speed shorts and Pace Setters are classic Lululemon staple items. ’nuff said, these are fantabulous.

The 20th Anniversary Manifesto Printed Wunder Unders and Energy Bras

I absolutely LOVE the recent (ish) 20th anniversary Manifesto-embossed Wunder Unders and Energy Bras. I bought them all when they came out- I could not resist!

This Long Sleeve Top:

Manifesto LS in Paris Pink – Burnout fabric

Okay, so the Burnout fabric is a little tooooooo delicate, but I freakin love Paris Pink. Truth be told: This is actually on my wish list, not in my closet where it belongs lol

Let me know in the comments what you think about the Manifesto, as it exists now, or in the past and what you think about the controversies. Or, just let me know: Do you like the Manifesto-printed items?

Thanks for reading! See you in the next one!

Lululemon Self Care Product Line Review

Hello Everyone! I hope that everyone had an AMAZING 4th of July holiday!

As soon as I heard that Lululemon had come out with personal care products, I thought: Ooooooh! Something I can actually order right now. I am about 8 months pregnant, so I basically fit into nothing anymore, and therefore have curbed my adorable Lululemon clothing appetite completely. I ordered these products and received them last Thursday, so I’ve had a little over a week to try them out.

Packaging: I really like the simplicity of the packaging. It’s just red & white, very basic. Everything does have a sticker seal on the side of it, but is otherwise not hermetically sealed. The box these products came in was plain, but had a cute quote on the inside: “did you just work out? -asked no one ever again.” They also came with a see-thru plastic cosmetics bag. And all the (travel-sized) products fit inside comfortably.

I want to start with the deodorants. My husband used the Black Pepper Sandalwood and I used the Aloe Lotus. My husband liked the deodorant, and I smelled him at the end of his work days and he smelled pleasant. I like the smell of the Aloe Lotus, but it did not last throughout the days for me, and by 3pm I was a little stinky. And, this is after normal activity- I haven’t been to the gym in two weeks. So, I can’t give the women’s deodorant my seal of approval, but the men’s seems to work just fine- figure that! I would love to say: to be fair, I am pregnant and hormones and what-not, but my other deodorants, even the spray-on types last all day on me, regardless of gestational status. I will probably give this a couple more chances after I deliver, and I will update here to see if it lasts then. Because who knows, maybe it is my current body chemistry. All I know is that I paid for it, so I might as well get some use out of it!

The next item on the list is the No-Show Dry Shampoo. This item is in the Argan Lotus scent. It smells pretty, of course, and doesn’t smell “harsh” or have an overbearing scent like a lot of other Dry Shampoos have. I can totally see myself using this right after the gym to freshen up, and it does remove oil from my hair, while remaining shockingly invisible, as advertised. My current favorite dry shampoo is by Living Proof, but this one might take its place. The full-sized Lululemon one is over 8oz, and $34, while the Living Proof one is $10 cheaper at $24 for the full sized item, but their full size is only 4oz, so ounce for ounce, the Lululemon one is cheaper. – I hope that made sense. TLDR: Lululemon’s is cheaper per ounce than Living Proof.

The next thing I will talk about is my FAVORITE product from this collection: The Basic Balm. Fun fact about me: My favorite lip balm is the Dior Lip Glow. It is the best lip balm I’ve ever used and it is $34. I’ve only ever purchased one, and was planning to buy another one for myself for when I go into labor and all that “he,he,hooo’-ing gave me the potential for very chapped lips. I will no longer need to supplement my lip balm collection now that I own this “Basic Balm.” I absolutely love it. It is lightly scented, it applies well, looks nice on, and most importantly, moisturizes my lips in a way that is not gross, waxy or sticky. It actually feels “healthy” for my lips. I love it!

The final product I purchased is the Sweat Reset Face Moisturizer. First impressions: I like the packaging, in that it does have a locking top feature, which will prevent leakage- and at $48 for 1.6oz, you’ll want to ensure that you waste not a single drop! That seems a little pricey to me! This is a very lightweight cream- it is definitely hydrating, without feeling sticky and it absorbs into the skin. However, I am not a huge fan of the scent. It seems innocuous, but I just don’t personally like it. If you own this, let me know in the comments what you think of the smell. I am having difficulty describing it. Finally, I haven’t been using this for long enough to detect any skin benefits. I plan to wait until the fall, when my skin will be dryer to see if this is truly a hydration miracle or a dud.

Have you tried any of these products? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Lululemon for Expecting Ladies

Hello Happy People! How are y’all today!?

I have always wanted to write a post about what the best Lululemon for pregnancy is, but, until now, I never really had any personal experience with it! As of now, I am almost 6 months along.

Mostly, you’ll want to have things that can “grow” with you.

Right now, my absolute favorite “cold weather” pants are my Pleasing Pants. I bought them in all three colors (black, polar cream & limitless blue) when they came out, in 2012. They are still in amazing condition. They are SUPER stretchy & the low waistband allows your belly to “protrude” over it completely comfortably.

Limitless Blue Pleasing Pants

The next pants on my pregnancy must-have list are the Still Pants. Lululemon no longer sells the Still Pants, however, I find that every couple of years they’ll release pants that are very similar to the Still pants, such as the “Be Still” pants.

Align pants are fabulous for pregnant ladies because they can really stretch, but the fabric is designed to hold its shape, so they can stretch with you, without losing their ability to fit you once you’re no longer holding baby in your tummy.

Baby-Body-Friendly Tops

The No Limits tank will always be my favorite, but it might not be an option for some due to the size of the bra. The built-in bra that is inside the No Limits tank is basically the Flow Y bra, attached to the light circle mesh structure that is the no Limits tank. This bra is designed for small-busted women and provides good support for A/B cups. If your chest measurement grows by much, I don’t know that this bra will stretch alongside the extent of the growth in your chest measurement, as they no longer fit mine. However, I have known some women to be able to wear their No Limits tanks throughout their pregnancies as the circle mesh portion of the tank is extremely stretchy and will easily cover your pregnant belly. On top of that it looks amazing on pregnant women when I’ve seen it worn.

For those of us whose busts have grown considerably during pregnancy, to the extent that we need new bras, Lululemon tops with built-in bras may not be an option, unless they’re particularly stretchy (perhaps one made of Luxtreme or light Luon would be a viable option for some? All of mine are too small now). For us, the Cool Racerback is my favorite, core-product option. If I was going to be especially picky, I’d suggest the Extra Long versions of this top which were released in 2011.

The next tops I would recommend are the 105 F Singlets. These are amazing. I love them in general, but they fit nicely over my belly and they’re really stretchy.

I wish there were some shorts or skirts I could recommend, but I don’t want to recommend anything that would be too difficult to find, so, other than Still Shorts (which haven’t been available in years), and a few one-off cotton shorts, I can’t think of anything that would be stretchy enough and recently, currently, part of the core collection or easy enough to find on ebay/poshmark/etc to recommend to you.

I will say that some things I own in light luxtreme are still ok, but the fit isn’t great. They just look off. But technically, I can get them over the belly. I want to commit to adding some things to this, if I think of anything else- especially shorts/ skirts. I’ve got three months here left to figure out what in my collection still wants to fit me. If I find anything, I’ll update this post. In the meantime, if you’ve ever been pregnant, let me know in the comments what items from your collection still fit you during most of it! Thanks!
